Daylight Savings Driving Tips

Nothing says winter is right around the corner like Daylight Savings. While that extra hour of sleep was nice, the early darkness is a little bit more difficult to get used to. If you live in Plattsburgh, NY; Burlington, VT; Lake Placid, Malone, or Queensbury, NY, you’re probably driving home from work while the sun is almost down, or even worse, completely gone. The dark commute home may take some getting used to, which is why DELLA Kia has six tips for safe driving in the dark. Avoid Lighting Distractions: Lighting distractions can momentarily blind or compromise your forward vision, and as we all know, it only takes a split second for an accident to happen. Try to avoid looking at oncoming headlights and keep your instrument panel and dashboard lights dim. Scan the Road: When the sun goes down, our depth perception is less accurate. Trying not to focus on a single point while driving will help this, as well as prevent your eyes from becoming dry and tired from concentrating. Aim Headlights: Believe it or not, your headlights could be aligned incorrectly. Aiming them properly will allow you to see directly in front of you and avoid blinding other drivers. Leave Some Room: We know you’re in a rush to get home, but it’s always a good idea to leave a little extra room this time of year. You might be a pro at driving at night, but the person in front of you may not be so skilled. Your distance will allow extra braking time if they don’t see something until last minute or an animal jumps out in the road. Clean Your Windshield: While your windshield might look pretty clean during the day, but once the sun goes down, any smudges or streaks can rear their ugly head. This adds to the glare of oncoming headlights and visibility issues, so be sure to wipe the inside of your windshield. We suggest using newspaper! Take a Nap: This is by far our favorite suggestion! While it’s only an hour difference, the time change can throw off your body’s circadian rhythm. If you are feeling tired, find a safe place to park and take a quick snooze before getting on the road. Spooky Plattsburgh Road Trip

It’s finally Halloweekend! We know you might be heading out to a Halloween party or hayride, but if you haven’t yet made plans, DELLA Kia has put together a special treat for you. All you need is your New Kia from DELLA Kia and a sense of adventure! Below is our list of scariest places to visit around Plattsburgh, NY; Burlington, VT; Lake Placid, Malone, and Queensbury, NY. Grab your friends and family and head out for this haunted road trip! Our first stop on the list is none other than our very own SUNY Plattsburgh Macdonough Hall in Plattsburgh, NY. You’ve probably heard about some of the strange things that have occurred in this dorm over the years. Residents have reported a number of strange occurrences including toilets flushing, radios, alarms, and lights turning on for no reason. Some people have even claimed to see ghosts roaming the halls, and explain the connect by the fact that the hall was built on marshland. During its construction, the remains of a woman along with her gravestone were found. If you love legends and folklore, you’re going to love this next stop. St. Albans, VT is home to the St. Albans Bay State Park where ghost pirates have been spotted traveling on a phantom ship. The pirates, who are allegedly searching for Champ, the legendary creature who lives in the bay, often call out to nearby fishermen. Next up is the Gold Brook Covered Bridge in Stowe, VT, also known as“Emily’s Bridge. ” There are multiple stories of how Emily did. Some say she hung herself from the rafter after her fiance didn’t show up for their elopement, while others believe she was run over by horses. The truth remains to be uncovered, but one thing is for sure, Emily’s spirit lives on. Visitors have heard screams and scratching, and some have even reported seeing her walking about. Now is the perfect time to head over to American Flatbread in Burlington, VT for a bite to eat. While you’re chowing down, you can chat about how this was previously called Carbus Restaurant, and a former employee killed himself in the basement. Yummy! The basement is apparently still haunted, and employees are warned to enter at their own risk. Several employees have been locked in the walk-in freezer, which can slam shut with no explanation at all. For your final stop, head over to the Plattsburgh Airforce Base, which is both haunting and historic! Ghost children along with a soldier from the Revolutionary War and a lady in white have been spotted multiple times on the grounds. You can also check out the Old Gym, which was used as a morgue during the war. Visitors have heard screaming and pounding at the location. There’s even a red basement, which is said to be painted that color to cover up blood stains.

B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe) Teen Pro-Active Driving School

Kia Celebrates National Teen Driver Safety Week

October 16th through October 22nd is National Teen Driver Safety Week, and to help educate teenage drivers on safe driving habits, Kia Motors America has once again teamed up with B.R.A.K.E.S. Driving School for free driving classes. B.R.A.K.E.S., which stands for Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe, was started by Doug Herbert in an effort to educate teens and prepare them for emergency situations on the road. Herbert lost his two sons in a tragic car accident in 2008, and with car crashes being the number-one killer of teens in the United States, he is not alone. B.R.A.K.E.S. Teen Pro-Active Driving School isn’t your normal driver’s ed class. Both teens and their parents receive hands-on defensive driving lessons from race car drivers, stunt drivers, and law-enforcement officers. Kia is the official vehicle of the school and has provided over 44 vehicles to help support the program. “Kia places a priority on vehicle safety, and our partnership with B.R.A.K.E.S. reflects our commitment to keeping drivers safe on the road, which begins with practical, hands-on driving experience,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, KMA. “The B.R.A.K.E.S. program has been proven to improve driving skills and help teens make better decisions when behind the wheel.” Take the time this week to talk to your own teen drivers about best practices behind the wheel. Stay safe out there, and remember that many of our New Kia Vehicles at DELLA Kia offer advanced safety technology to help keep you and your family even more protected. Stop by for a test drive today. 2017 Sedona

2017 Kia Sorento is a Top Safety Pick+

With elegant design and premium comfort and convenience, it’s hard to imagine the 2017 Kia Sedona getting any better. But when you throw in a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), it makes it a truly unbeatable minivan. This year, the Sedona is offered with available Autonomous Emergency Braking, which helps avoid forward collisions. If there is an impending forward collision, your vehicle will warn you to brake, and if you don’t, it will apply the brakes for you. The addition of this technology has boosted the safety rating from “basic” to “superior.” “Buyers often place safety at the top of their list when shopping for a new minivan,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning KMA. “The IIHS is a highly respected safety authority and we see the 2017 Sedona’s TSP+ rating as validation of Kia’s dedication to its customers and to the continuous efforts to build better and safer vehicles.” 2017 KIA SEDONA EARNS 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK+, HIGHEST POSSIBLE SAFETY RATING FROM THE INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY. Self-Parking Kia Soul

The Kia Soul. It’s sleek. It’s sporty. It’s… self-parking? Yes, you heard that correctly. Kia is making a name for itself in the race to autonomy. Kia, who has predicted that half of all vehicles will be autonomous by 2030, is hard at work on their technology. The first autonomous Kia, a self-driving “Drive Wise” Kia Soul appeared at the CES 2016, but we’ve yet to see one in action. Check out the video above and watch the Soul park itself in a crowded garage. Once you’re done, head over to DELLA Kia for a test drive! We may not have self-parking Kias, but with technologies like the Front and Rear Camera Display and Rear Parking Guide System, it might feel like it! Allen, James.
