B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe) Teen Pro-Active Driving School

October 16th through October 22nd is National Teen Driver Safety Week, and to help educate teenage drivers on safe driving habits, Kia Motors America has once again teamed up with B.R.A.K.E.S. Driving School for free driving classes.

B.R.A.K.E.S., which stands for Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe, was started by Doug Herbert in an effort to educate teens and prepare them for emergency situations on the road. Herbert lost his two sons in a tragic car accident in 2008, and with car crashes being the number-one killer of teens in the United States, he is not alone.

B.R.A.K.E.S. Teen Pro-Active Driving School isn’t your normal driver’s ed class. Both teens and their parents receive hands-on defensive driving lessons from race car drivers, stunt drivers, and law-enforcement officers. Kia is the official vehicle of the school and has provided over 44 vehicles to help support the program.

“Kia places a priority on vehicle safety, and our partnership with B.R.A.K.E.S. reflects our commitment to keeping drivers safe on the road, which begins with practical, hands-on driving experience,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, KMA. “The B.R.A.K.E.S. program has been proven to improve driving skills and help teens make better decisions when behind the wheel.”

Take the time this week to talk to your own teen drivers about best practices behind the wheel. Stay safe out there, and remember that many of our New Kia Vehicles at DELLA Kia offer advanced safety technology to help keep you and your family even more protected. Stop by for a test drive today.

2017 Sedona

With elegant design and premium comfort and convenience, it’s hard to imagine the 2017 Kia Sedona getting any better. But when you throw in a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), it makes it a truly unbeatable minivan. This year, the Sedona is offered with available Autonomous Emergency Braking, which helps avoid forward collisions. If there is an impending forward collision, your vehicle will warn you to brake, and if you don’t, it will apply the brakes for you. The addition of this technology has boosted the safety rating from “basic” to “superior.”

“Buyers often place safety at the top of their list when shopping for a new minivan,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning KMA. “The IIHS is a highly respected safety authority and we see the 2017 Sedona’s TSP+ rating as validation of Kia’s dedication to its customers and to the continuous efforts to build better and safer vehicles.”

The Kia Soul. It’s sleek. It’s sporty. It’s… self-parking? Yes, you heard that correctly. Kia is making a name for itself in the race to autonomy. Kia, who has predicted that half of all vehicles will be autonomous by 2030, is hard at work on their technology. The first autonomous Kia, a self-driving “Drive Wise” Kia Soul appeared at the CES 2016, but we’ve yet to see one in action. Check out the video above and watch the Soul park itself in a crowded garage. Once you’re done, head over to DELLA Kia for a test drive! We may not have self-parking Kias, but with technologies like the Front and Rear Camera Display and Rear Parking Guide System, it might feel like it!

Since it arrived on the scene with its furry hamster friends back in 2008, the Kia Soul has been a hit with drivers of all ages. With style, an array of standard features, and a low price tag, what’s not to love? Now, the Soul has even more soul with a new powerboost from the 1.5L Turbocharged Engine, which was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last week.

The engine offers 201 horsepower, which is a significant increase from the 130 horsepower in the base Kia Soul and 164 in the upgraded engine models. This engine will also be paired with a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Other updates to the Kia Soul Turbo model include the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in the UVO infotainment system, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and red accents.

We will let you know if and when the Kia Soul Turbo arrives here at DELLA Kia!

Kia fans may remember the posh Kia Telluride Concept which debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The crossover concept would be the largest and most luxurious SUV in the Kia lineup. Unfortunately, many of the vehicles that we see at auto shows, although exciting to look at, never quite make it to the production stage. But there might be a glimmer of hope for the Telluride!

Kia’s Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer revealed at the Paris Motor Show that he has high hopes for the SUV to be approved for production. “The concept has been accepted very well,” Schreyer said. “I think it has a good chance to be developed.” Schreyer also confirmed that the Telluride would be built on existing pieces from Hyundai or Kia, like the chassis from the Kia Sorento and the 3.3L naturally-aspirated V6 Engine from the Kia Cadenza. Schreyer also seemed confident that the Telluride would maintain the concept’s size and proportions. “When we do concepts we always try to do that,” Schreyer said.

If the Telluride does go to production, it would most likely be a 2019 model. We would love to see this vehicle arrive at DELLA Kia! Read our blog for more updates on the Kia Telluride concept.
